Blandford Nature Center Sugarbush breakfast fundraiser on Saturday March 26 from 9AM-12PM.
Hiss. The pancake batter goes onto the griddle. Sizzle. Bubbles appear in the hot mixture. Clink. A metal spatula hits the griddle. Kerplunk. The griddle cooks the other side. Plop. The pancake is frantically dropped onto a plate. Hiss. The process begins all over again. And again. It is not until thousands of pancakes have been cooked and served that both the cooks and the griddle can take a break.
That is the setting for the Blandford Nature Center Sugarbush breakfast fundraiser on Saturday March 26 from 9AM-12PM. The breakfast has also been a huge success with thousands of people showing up for good food and a good cause. This year, volunteers from the American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids and Griffin Properties will bring their expertise to Blandford’s outdoor kitchen. Armed with pancake batter guns, spatulas, three outdoor griddles, and countless pounds of batter, the volunteers will take on the full workload. Most of the volunteers will spend the morning at the outdoor griddles, while some will serve as ‘runners’ between the cooks and servers. In both circumstances, the volunteers will have to don aprons, hairnets, boots, and winter coats. It is surly going to be a day filled with lots of laughs, pancakes, smiles, and syrup.
The meal is open to the public from 9AM-12PM at CA Frost School (1460 Laughlin Drive Northwest) with a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children. Breakfast is complete with pancakes, sausage, and Blandford’s famous freshly tapped syrup. This price also includes admission into the Sugarbush festival for the remainder of the day.
This project is another installment in the year long Heart Work is Hard Work project series.
